SYLLABUS

Spring Semester, Professional Communications
Mr. Bone

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Professional communications is a semester long course required by the state for graduation.
Students are expected to create and give speeches in front of an audience, hopefully conquering the fear of speaking in front of an audience.

GRADING POLICY
Daily grades: 40%  quizzes, daily assignments, participation activities, homework, etc
Major grades: 60%  speeches, tests, projects, etc.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Freshmen students who do not complete their work will be assigned to Friday Night Lights, which is an after school program on Friday afternoons until five. If the student does not attend, he/she will be in TAP Monday to finish the assignment. If the assignment isn’t completed, a zero will be given for the assignment.

PLAGIARISM
Student handbook definition: Plagiarism: submitting or presenting material that in part or whole is not entirely one's own work without attributing those same portions to their correct source. If you plagiarize an assignment in this class, you will receive a zero.

SUPPLIES
Pen/pencil
Paper
Chromebooks

MAKE-UP WORK
Students are responsible for obtaining and completing any work missed due to absences, whether due to illness, extracurricular activities, etc. Two school days per day absent from class shall be allowed to complete all missed assignments.

JOURNAL
On the board will be written the itinerary for the day, which you will type into the designated spot in your journal. If you are absent, the itinerary will be on the blog. At random times, there will be a journal check that will be a daily grade. It must be filled in with the correct information to get full credit. If you do not have it, you will get a zero. You do have the option to keep your journal on paper.

GOOGLE CHROMEBOOKS
Much of the  classwork and homework will be completed on Google Chromebooks. Google Chrome is accessible from any computer that has Internet access. All assignments will be given through Mr. Bone’s Professional Communication Class at www.bonespeech.blogspot.com

CLASSROOM RULES
  1. Be respectful to me, to yourself, to your peers, and to anyone who walks into the classroom.
  2. Bring everything you need with you everyday.
  3. Take care of any personal business before you come to class.
  4. You are allowed two restroom breaks per six-week period without an attendance violation.
  5. Follow all instructions from me.

MORE ON CHROMEBOOKS
Your Chromebook is a helpful tool, and it should be treated and used as such. When anyone is speaking in front of the class (teacher or student), your Chromebook should be closed, unless otherwise permitted. Do not play games on your Chromebook.

CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES
You will need to use your cell phone only on occasion. Until those occasions, your cell phone should be out of sight and out of mind. You will need permission to use it in class. ChromeBooks should be the only electronic device you will generally need.

BEHAVIOR (MORE RULES)
Do the right thing.
Talk or get out of your seat only with permission.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
