1. Read speeches.
2. While reading speech, pay attention to the following:
     a. posture-- Don't lean on podium, put hands in pockets, rock back and forth, etc.
     b. eye contact-- For this one, look up at least three times.
     c. voice-- Slow down. Be loud enough and clear. 
     d. attitude-- Be confident and act as you should.
3. You will be graded on the above things, scoring anywhere from 0 to 10 points each. 
4. Be sure to practice, as you will also earn from 0 to 20 points on your ability to handle all of the words on delivery.
5. 10 points will be added for giving the speech on time, and the final 30 points will be awarded for simply giving the speech.
4. For an early warning, there will be a vocabulary quiz on Friday.

1. Pair up.
2. Find a current event article online.
3. Write a response to the article (clarification, positive, negative, whatever, ...).
4. One of the pair will read the article. (It should be a minimum of one minute long and no longer than four minutes.) (The main focus here is that you have read and practiced the article enough that you do not stumble over the words.)
5. The other person will read the response. (There is a 30-second minimum and a two-minute maximum.) (The main focus here is that you have put together a coherent thought about the article.)
6. The speeches will be given tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 20.)
7. This is for two daily grades. 
8. The scoring for the first grade will be as follows:
     25 points--      reading the article
     25 points--      giving the response
     0-20 points--   adequate voice and apparent practice
     5 points--        article within time limits
     0-20 points--   coherent, proper response
     5 points--        response within time limits
9. The scoring for the second grade will be as follows (and they are all in my opinion):
     50 points--      doing your designated part properly
     50 points--      apparent teamwork

ALL ABOUT ME ASSIGNMENT

YOUR FIRST MAJOR SPEECH OF THE YEAR IS ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT... YOU! YOU WILL CREATE A POSTER ALL ABOUT YOU FOLLOWING GUIDELINES BELOW AND DEVELOP A SPEECH ABOUT EACH SECTION OF THE POSTER.

GUIDELINES

1. You have two options for the poster. 
         If on poster board, the poster must be at least 1/2 a poster board in size.
         You may do a poster online, if you have the know-how. We will show it on the overhead, and you may turn it in to the "All About Me Poster" folder in Google Classroom.
2. In the center of the poster will be your name spelled out in adjectives that describe you. This website might be helpful to you: http://adjectivesthatstart.com
3. Divide the poster into four sections:
     Section one: the two colors that best describe your personality (color chart on the blog),
     Section two: a quote, motto, or poem that describes you and/or that you love.
     Section three: at least three things you love and enjoy (pictures must be included),
     Section four: at least two memories from your life (pictures must be included).
4. Presentation (speech)
     Discuss why you chose the adjectives for your name.
     Discuss each section of your ME poster.
     The speech will be approximately two minutes in length.
5. The poster is one TEST GRADE, and the speech is one TEST GRADE.
6. The poster is due on Wednesday, January 13.
7. The speech is due on Thursday, January 14.


You will have some class time to work on this, but this will not be the only assignment you will have during this time period. There may be other daily work to do, including small speeches.
